Groups representing tenants, seniors and other telephone customers have expressed outrage at BC Tel’s proposal, filed with a CRTC working-group, to abandon responsibility for maintaining its telephone wiring systems in multi-unit buildings.
“Many tenants are having enough trouble getting landlords to maintain plumbing and heating”, said Vanessa Geary of the Tenants’ Rights Action Coalition. “If BC Tel has its way, phone service will be added to the list. This will mean more headaches for tenants, and more conflict with landlords.”
