Money would normally be used to help low-income people with disabilities and the elderly

Despite calls for immediate action from community groups, the Minister of Human Resources Murray Coell has yet to release money to seniors and people with disabilities. Community groups are joining together to urge the Minister to release the money quickly.

“We approached the Ministry and discussed possible solutions. The most logical one seems to be a temporary cash benefit of $50 for everyone who has a Ministry-issued bus pass. The benefit could be given out for each month, including July, that the Vancouver transit labour dispute continues. Although this money would not solve the problem, it would provide some much needed relief,” said Tom McGregor of the BC Coalition of People with Disabilities.
