A class action lawsuit on behalf of surviving lesbian and gay spouses for the denial of survivor benefits under the Canada Pension Plan is being launched today in Vancouver. A related class action lawsuit is being launched in Toronto.
The lawsuit against the federal government alleges that the government discriminates against same sex couples by denying surviving partners a survivor benefit under the Canada Pension Plan if their partners died before January 1, 1998.
