Shaw customers could pay more for basic cable services if the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approves Shaw Cable’s application to deregulate basic cable charges. All Shaw needs to do is show that there is competition in the market and that the number of subscribers has declined by 5% or more.

Shaw wants to deregulate its cable systems in Burnaby, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Mission, Northwest Vancouver, Vancouver, Surrey, Abbotsford, and White Rock, British Columbia.
