Leading BC community organizations gathered in Vancouver today to announce the preparation of a constitutional challenge to the two-year time limit on eligibility for social assistance.
“On April 1, 2004 the Government of British Columbia will begin cutting people off welfare,” said Robert Arnold, Acting President of the federated anti-poverty groups of BC. “The government doesn’t care that many vulnerable people will be without the means to feed, clothe and house themselves. The government will cut people off simply because it believes they have been on welfare too long.”
